The salaries of freelance writers differ from person to person.  Everything depends on how many people are following their blog/webpage and if the webpage has made it onto popular pages.  Many freelance bloggers only earn $1,000 to $3,000 a month for their blogs.  However, if there are enough followers of a blog, it is possible to earn as much as $30,000 to $60,000 per year.
This career will certainly evolve in ten years.  Today there is a large percentage of Americans in this profession, and in ten years there will be even more.   More and more Americans are taking up this career as a way to earn a bit more money each year.  In the future, this career will still be popular, mainly because it is a good way to earn more money.  Since the technology we have today will definitely be outdated in ten years, writers will be able to post new articles, reviews, and more on countless new pieces of technology.
